Google Business Profile post image size

2026 specs from Google Help — not a competitor guess. Square 720 × 720, JPG or PNG, 10 KB to 5 MB.

If a GBP post looks blurry, gets cropped, or never goes live, the image is usually the problem. Google publishes photo rules in Manage your Business Profile photos & videos. Those numbers apply to the photos you add to the profile, including the images you attach to posts. Other blogs invent 1200 × 900 or “must be 720 × 720 or Google rejects it.” Use Help Center first.

Official Google Business Profile photo specs (2026)

From Google Help, your photos look best when they meet all of the following:

  • Format: JPG or PNG
  • File size: 10 KB to 5 MB
  • Recommended resolution: 720 px wide × 720 px tall
  • Minimum resolution: 250 px × 250 px
  • Quality: in focus, well lit, no heavy filters or obvious edits that stop the photo from looking like the real business

Videos on the profile are a different rule set (up to 30 seconds, 75 MB, 720p or higher) and Google’s post API has historically been stricter about video than photos. If you need a reliable weekly cadence, start with still images.

What is the recommended size for a Google My Business post image in 2026?

Same answer as GBP: 720 × 720. Google My Business is just the old name. Google has not published a separate “post-only” pixel chart. If an article dated 2026 gives you a different number without citing Help, treat it as a design preference, not a requirement.

A larger square export (for example 1080 × 1080 from a phone) is usually fine if the file stays under 5 MB. Going below 250 × 250 is what makes posts look like thumbnails. Going far into ultrawide 16:9 with text on the edges is what gets cropped in Maps.

Profile photo vs cover vs post image

  • Logo: square mark customers use to recognize you. It only shows reliably when the listing also has a name, address, category, phone, and hours.
  • Cover: the wide hero on the profile. Google may replace a weak cover with a customer photo.
  • Post image: the photo on an Update, Offer, or Event. Design it as a square. Keep the offer text and faces in the center 80% so a tight crop still reads.

Why GBP post images get cropped or rejected

  • Portrait or 16:9 files with the headline sitting on the left or right edge
  • Files under 10 KB (over-compressed) or over 5 MB
  • Screenshots, stock watermarks, or heavy filters that fail the “represents reality” test
  • Policy issues — misleading offers, prohibited content — which look like a “size” problem but are not

If the post itself is rejected, size is only one checklist item. See post examples for copy that fits Update / Offer / Event, and how MapPush builds graphics so you are not exporting from Canva every week.

Can Canva post to Google Business Profile?

Canva can design the image. It does not replace a GBP connection. The usual path is export 720 × 720 JPG → upload in business.google.com or a scheduler. That is fine for one post. It is a grind if you want 2–3 posts a week.

MapPush generates the graphic from photos you already have, writes the caption, and publishes through the official Google API at the time you pick. First post is free — see pricing.
